Teacher’s Day – The Windfarm – FOOH Experience
A 25-second FOOH CGI video for Teacher’s Day, combining live-action footage, a real wind farm location, CGI turbines, a massive tornado simulation and an emotional final thank-you message.
A Teacher’s Day message turned into a cinematic FOOH story on a real wind farm.
Western Cape Education Department needed a bright and unconventional Teacher’s Day campaign that would go beyond standard greeting content.
The goal was to create a FOOH video on a real wind farm location, combining live actors, cinematic scale, a massive CGI tornado and a strong final reveal message.
Lumenstory created a 25-second FOOH experience where an ordinary field transforms into a dramatic visual story, ending with the message: “Thank you to all our teachers.”
The CGI had to feel real despite difficult wind, live actors and post-created field elements.
The real shooting conditions created the first challenge: strong wind made it difficult to get a perfectly smooth shot, which complicated tracking and CGI integration.
The actors moved through an empty field during filming, while the yellow seed trail – a key visual element of the story – was created entirely in post-production.
The real wind turbines were also replaced with CGI models, allowing the team to fully control blade speed, scale and their dramatic reaction to the tornado.
A storm clears the field and reveals gratitude.
The story follows two people walking through a real field toward wind turbines. Suddenly, the calm landscape turns into a cinematic force of nature as a tornado moves through the field, changing everything around it.
The key wow moment was the giant CGI tornado moving across the field, spinning the wind turbines, lifting yellow seeds into the air and clearing the ground to reveal: “Thank you to all our teachers.”

A VFX-heavy FOOH pipeline built around real footage, simulation tests and final reveal clarity.
Storyboard
The field walk, tornado movement and final message reveal were structured first.
Animatic
Tornado trajectory, actor timing and final reveal readability were tested early.
CGI Production
Wind turbines, seed field elements, tornado structure and environment interaction were created.
Simulation & Compositing
Tornado motion, yellow seeds, tracking, actor integration and atmospheric FX were refined.
Final Adaptations
The final FOOH video was prepared for TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube Shorts and other digital channels.
The technical core was making live footage, CGI turbines, seeds and tornado simulation behave like one real event.
The most difficult part was combining live shooting with CGI under strong wind conditions, where camera stability and tracking quality were not ideal.
Since the yellow seed trail did not exist during shooting, it had to be built and integrated in post while still matching actor movement, ground perspective and tornado interaction.
Replacing real wind turbines with CGI models gave full control over blade speed and their reaction to the tornado, making the scene more dramatic and physically readable.
The production used Cinema 4D, Redshift, Houdini simulations, After Effects, CGI compositing, motion design, atmospheric FX and a simulation-heavy FOOH pipeline.
Test simulations helped control tornado trajectory, seed intensity and final-message reveal before final render.

The project included about 4-5 revision rounds. The biggest adjustments focused on tornado trajectory, yellow seed interaction, wind turbine speed and readability of the final reveal.
“Thank you for turning a complex real-location shoot with large-scale effects into one complete story.”
A real location, live actors and CGI spectacle became one emotional Teacher’s Day story.
The project successfully combined real shooting, CGI and VFX into one cinematic FOOH story that felt natural and visually powerful.
The CGI integration preserved the feeling that everything happened in a real location, while the tornado and wind farm reaction created a strong spectacle.
The final reveal kept the emotional message clear: the visual scale led the viewer toward gratitude, rather than replacing it.
The project was approved, launched and contributed to continued collaboration and repeat projects.
